30 Hour Famine Blog - New School Year

It's that time again... Needed to have a blog done this past Tuesday morning. I knew what I wanted to say but it wasn't quite flowing the way I wanted it to... And I was going to see Mumford and Sons on Monday night in Birmingham, AL.

So I put off finishing until Tuesday morning.

I wrote about a new school year and being at a new church. How it's a bit of a challenge to invite teens and parents to do something like a 30 Hour Famine especially if it sounds like something hard and "not fun". But so incredibly worth it. It can change our lives, help us realize how we can come together by living out the gospel and that we can bring actual change into children and teenagers lives around the world!

30 Hour Famine

It's coming!

We - the First United Methodist Church youth group of Pensacola... - are going to do the 30 Hour Famine again...and I just wanted to invite any and all of you to join us!

We will stop eating on October 6th at 6:00 a.m. and will hang out for 12 hours - serving food to homeless, prayer walks, games, juicing, movies, random acts of kindness, pictures and more from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m on Saturday. The we will break our fast by eating a meal together at noon on October 7th.

This is one of the most incredible ministries my students and I participate with - last year we raised over $8000 which fed about 23 children in Africa. It has helped raise awareness for all of the students and adults that hang out together in this time. We know that it is up to us to make a difference for the people that can't do anything for themselves and to think through everything we eat or use and then disgard...

The money we raise this year is going to Uganda...So fast, pray and send any money to me or any of the youth OR to 30 Hour famine at .

Thank you for any kind of support!!!!

30 Hour Famine...from myspace

Aahhhhhh...I've been eating since 12...the famine ended at 12 and now I can't stop eating. Funny how it works that way.

This is the second time this year - the youth group has done the fast and I have to tell you - I am constantly amazed at how much it impacts me. I was cranky, tired, hungry, irritated and any other annoying thing you can be when I left the church last night, after 12 hours of activities and I know the day was good but I was thinking "why do I do this?"

Have any of you seen the absolutely AMAZING commercial about an insurance company recently? The one that shows different people witnessing another person doing an act of kindness to another so that they pay attention and do something for someone else and that means someone else does something for another...I LOVE it. And then it's an insurance company commercial.

I want to wake up every morning and realize...how loved that I am. Not in the - Oh yea, God loves me. But in the, Oh my freakin goodness, my life is flip turned upside down because God chooses to love me. Me.

Anyways, back to the famine - if you haven't done it, do it(www.30hourfamine.org)...especially if you work with students - it will change their lives and yours and you get to raise money to help prevent hunger. Hunger is 100% preventable. 100%. Our goal this year - to raise $2000 dollars for World Vision...which we had by 9:45 am this morning. Pretty amazing huh. AND then, and then we found out - that someone was so impacted by the students testimonies about the famine and our experience on feeding homeless while hungry and our prayer walks...that one family donated $6000. 22 children in Africa will get to eat because me and 28 others didn't eat this weekend.

Jesus, increase in me so that I decrease.

Every day.
