Foot Feet running not yet

I am having my second surgery on December 20th - so in a little over 2 weeks. I will be having a Bunion removed plus my doctor is going to cut a tendon in my second toe to relax it and remove an extra bone in the side of my foot. This surgery will be less intensive then the first one, which means I should recover quicker! Yea! The first one was a bunionectomy plus the removal of bones in my second and third toes and pin implants put in. Ick.

Anyways, while I was at the gym this morning - I was thinking through everything I have already been through with the first foot and how I am still healing from that one and am not completely sure the surgery that I had was the surgery that I needed. I hope all of this is worth it. I don't know of anyone else that has pain in the base of their 2nd toes because of their bunions. I don't have pain in the bunion. And the doctors aren't sure what to do with that. So I have 2 different doctors performing 2 different surgeries. My first doctor is sick himself and not available to do my second surgery.

Anyways, in these last two weeks of walking for awhile, I am trying to enjoy the fact that I can wear shoes and drive and get places on my own. I think I have a little more angst going into this surgery. I know what to expect. I can handle it. I have an amazing family that is coming down to spend the first couple of weeks with me. I have amazing friends and community around me that is willing to care for me. But it's still surgery on my foot which affects so much of day to day life.

This entire process has been such a learning experience for me. To let others care for me, that was a big first step. But also, when I am handicapped, it is only for a short period of time and there are others that will never have use of a foot or a hand or whatever. I am "getting my surgeries over with" while I am young.

Shoot even that these surgeries are paid for by my health care. HUMBLING!

I am ready to start training to run a half marathon again right now but I will have to wait till March. March. I want to train for the Nashville 1/2 marathon. Yep.
